Held in the Sherborne Room in the Bishop’s Palace, Chichester, a room with a magnificent ceiling which pre-dated Shakespeare’s birth by 30 years, the atmosphere was conducive to, and prompted great performances. By the end of the workshop, conducted by Emma Coffey and which preceded the renditions, the performers were relaxed and enthusiastically using their voices to good effect.
There were 14 monologue performances and 3 duologues, from which the judges, Hugh Dennis, Abigail Cruttenden and Phil Hewitt, selected to go to the Grand Final in London, the monologue of Hebe Parrot (Titania from Midsummer Night’s Dream) and the duologue of Yana Preobrazenskaya and Sofya Boeuuleva (Juliet and Nurse from Romeo and Juliet).
The judges also awarded commendations to Lennon Pringle, William McKechnie and Danika Joachim-Baggot.
