September is back to school time and we’re looking forward to getting stuck into headteacher Sammy Wright’s new book, which shines a light on Britain’s national exam obsession, and seeks to answer what education is really for. General Sir Simon Mayall briefly touches on the theme too in his interview with ESU member Charlie Day – a fascinating video in which the former Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff discusses his career and thoughts on leadership. Plus we have a new book from Alastair Campbell, a comforting piece by Janan Ganesh in the FT, and an evocative audiobook rendition of David Copperfield.

Find these and more in our article on the members’ hub now.
