Lincolnshire Branch members enjoyed an insightful talk from Lord Patten of Barnes, former Governor of Hong Kong
Perhaps most widely known as Chris Patten, last Governor of Hong Kong, the Rt Hon Lord Patten of Barnes CH GCMG, attracted an enthusiastic crowd to the ESU’s long-standing annual Lincoln dinner this November at Lincoln College. Speaking about ‘Public Service around the World – from Belfast, Westminster and Brussels on the way to Hong Kong’, Lord Patten shared stories from his international career, covering encounters with many key figures. He also shared insightful perspectives on world events and challenges, before signing a raft of freshly published copies of his book, The Hong Kong Diaries, for a long line of eager guests. These included Solomon Thomas, who is preparing to travel to the USA as part of the ESU Secondary School Exchange Programme, and Jodie Rhodes who received Lincoln’s ESU John Roberts Travel Grant to travel to Honduras and is now home safely. Thank you to Camilla and Kelly for co-ordinating, to Lord and Lady Hogg for securing such a popular guest and to Lincoln College for running the event so well for us.
