About us
A warm welcome to the Brighton Hove & District of the English-Speaking Union! We meet most months, usually at the Hove Club, and have a programme of talks by experienced speakers on a wide range of topics. We would be pleased to meet you as a visitor to one of our events. We aim to channel any profits made from these events into supporting ESU educational programmes, such as mentor-led Discover Your Voice workshops in local schools – which lie at the core of the ESU’s charitable aims.
Our branch founded the UK Public Speaking Competition in 1960 and we remain dedicated to what has become a major aspect of the ESU’s educational activities nationally. We organise the local preliminary heats of the competition for schools throughout East Sussex and would always welcome volunteers to help out with this aspect of our work.
Being relatively close to London, our branch members are well placed to take advantage of activities at the ESU international headquarters in Mayfair, and are also always welcome at meetings organised by other neighbouring branches.
So, if you are passionate about helping to equip the young with the life skills and confidence they so need in today’s world, please get in touch. You will be making a real difference both to your local community as well joining a worldwide organisation dedicated to improving the life chances of young people everywhere.
We look forward to welcoming you to our branch!
