Working with Dragons

ESU Governor & CEO of the Peter Jones Foundation Jonny Sobczyk Boddington visited the Ouse Valley branch to talk about his career to date

After leaving university, our speaker, Jonny Sobczyk Boddington, worked for Teach First in Tower Hamlets. He then co-founded the Brilliant Club, which uses PhD students to help pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds obtain places in top universities.

In 2017 he was appointed CEO of the Peter Jones Foundation, which builds on the link with television’s “Dragon’s Den” stars to encourage young people to work in the business world. The Foundation has recently set up an opportunity for students at a local school, Sharnbrook Upper School, Bedford, to follow courses involving writing a business plan, borrowing money, and setting up a business: “Entrepreneurs are made – not born!”

Also in 2017 Jonny was invited to join the board of the ESU, where his input will surely be invaluable in support of our main concern: our educational work with young people.

We appreciated a most stimulating account of his remarkable career (to date!) and his invaluable work.
