Hastings 1066 branch – February meeting

The February meeting of Hastings 1066 took place at the Royal Victoria Hotel in St. Leonards on Sea.  After a beautiful lunch, we were introduced to Mr. Phillip Dean of St. Georges Foundation who spoke about transforming lives in Sierra Leone.  The Foundation has been working in Sierra Leone since 2004, developing facilities and have skilled staff who support homeless and abandoned children.  Some children are referred from social services, or more recently, orphaned from the Ebola outbreak.  St. Georges Foundation identify children at risk, provide a safe and welcoming home and rehabilitate them to health and social wellbeing.  They provide academic education, life skills training and also trace families and reunite children.

To date, over one hundred children have been given a new life.  It was a fascinating talk, but heart breaking to hear.  The members held a raffle afterwards.
