Bromley High School are the winners of the ESU-Churchill Public Speaking Competition 2023
Bromley High School are the worthy winners of the grand final of the prestigious ESU-Churchill Public Speaking Competition (PSC), sponsored by the International Churchill Society – the culmination of 132 heats involving over 1,200 contestants. On Sunday, 30 April at Churchill College, Cambridge, Eleanor delivered a thoughtful and entertaining speech on why she thinks parents should be held liable for the illegal acts of their children. Chair, Lydie, and Questioner, Ramya, were paired with Amy from Seaford College, who went on to win Best Speaker. Sonia, from Altrincham Grammar School, took home Best Chair, and Christiane, from St. Paul’s Girls’ School, was awarded Best Questioner.
‘Public speaking gives us the freedom to discuss whatever we want, in as much depth as we want – the research part is something that I really enjoy,’ said Ramya.
Speaking about the benefits of public speaking, Bromley High School public speaking coach, Mrs Christie, said: ‘the fundamental thing you are trying to instil in the children is a love of learning, a love of speaking your truth and being your authentic self. These are students who are going to come out with a greater sense of who they are and their contributions to the world.’

It was such an uplifting experience that everyone in the room will remember always. The Society prides itself on delivering the highest quality programmes for the younger generation, and there can be no more perfect example of this than this particular competition. It was just a perfect day.’
